dB (Decibels)
How It Works
Instructions:
- Select the material type from the dropdown
- Enter the thickness of the material
- Enter the surface area of the material
- Specify the frequency of the sound
- Click “Calculate Sound Insulation” to see results
Calculation Formula:
The sound insulation is calculated using the mass law equation:
R = 20 log₁₀(m × f) – 47
Where:
- R = Sound insulation (dB)
- m = Surface density (kg/m²)
- f = Frequency (Hz)
Different materials provide varying levels of sound insulation
About Sound Insulation
Sound insulation measures how well a material reduces sound transmission. Higher values indicate better performance. Typical values range from 30 dB (low insulation) to 60 dB (high insulation).
